TIPS: What to ask at your first wedding flower consultation
As you decide on your décor for your big day it can be really overwhelming when trying to choose the style of wedding flowers that will suit your day best. That’s why our friends at Pink Twig Florist have compiled a quick list of the ideas and items you should bring when you go to your initial wedding consultation with your florist!
- Clippings from magazines that capture your style, and an opinion on whether you like things that are wild looking and contemporary or tight and compact similar to Martha Stewart style (pictured above).
- A colour scheme for the day. Right now purple is really hot, because you know fashion always carries over into flowers. We've used purple as an accent colour in a fun bouquet below. You can also play it safe with an all white theme - always contemporary and fresh. We just love a simple calla lily bouquet (as shown below).
- Pictures of your venue and ceremony site.
- A realistic budget that you want to stay within. For example, if you know you have 40 tables, you should expect to have a centrepiece on every table and the average price per centrepiece is $50-75 for a standard round that seats 8-10 people. If you have smaller, cocktail style tables, you can go with smaller centrepieces and therefore smaller price per centrepiece.
- Lists of your favourite flowers, if you know them! Your florist can help you by telling you if they are in season or not, because seasonal flowers are generally less expensive because they can be local and accessed more easily.

Finally take your time, you don’t have to decide everything on your first appointment! Remember that it is a work in progress until it is perfect for you, because every girl is very different.
