Here are five Tightwad tips on budget bridal beauty:
- Have an at-home spa. Get your friends together, do each other’s nails and watch a good rom-com.
- Negotiate: See if you can negotiate a volume discount if your entire bridal party goes to the same salon for manicures and hair services.
- Get Your Own Accessories: If hair accessories are needed, buy them yourself beforehand rather than at the salon.
- Enlist a friend. Note: Have a couple of practice runs in advance. Try a few different looks, being sure to take pictures and make notes about what products are used and where. You may not like green eye shadow. Communication is key here. And remember, YouTube is full of how-to advice and bridal makeup tips.
- Online Forums: Visit craigslist or a community board to find a fellow bride or makeup-artist-in-training who is willing to work for a small fee, if any. Lots of other brides are looking to make extra money for their big day, so you may be able to trade wedding-day services.
