Help! Our Guest List is TOO BIG!

TAGS: GUEST LIST, BUDGET

The fastest way to save money on your wedding is to reduce the guest list. "But how?" you ask? Try these tips.

  • Give your parents strict guidelines when submitting their guests for the list! This can get a bit sticky depending on cultural obligations and expectations - but why not ask them to keep their lists to friends and acquaintances that you have actually met before?

  • Reduce the number of +1s you allow. Unless you are inviting guests who will not know anyone else at the wedding, you can invite single guests on their own. Do remember to plan your seating accordingly so single friends sit with other friends in their group.

  • Consider only inviting family and your closest friends (maybe the wedding party) to a special dinner, and invite the larger group for cocktails, Hors d'oeuvres, cake cutting and dance afterward.

  • Prioritize your guest list into "must invite" and "nice to invite" lists. Send your "must invites" early - when these guests decline, you can send an invitation from the "nice to invite" list. ...

Planning Tools: Which one to use?

TAGS: PLANNING, TOOLS, WEBSITE, GUEST LIST, SEATING PLAN, PHOTOGRAPHY, DJ, THANK YOU CARDS

With all the wedding planning resources popping up on the web, it can be overwhelming to find one that works for you. I have narrowed it down to three which I believe provide very useful and comprehensive planning tools for free. Sure, other sites may offer tools for one task or another, but I suggest that you stick with one site that can offer all the tools you need from start to finish. That way, all your information is in the same place and accessible from any computer.

I suggest using the time-saving interactive tools the websites provide with built in calculators, e-mail lists for your guests, etc, as well as buying an accordion folder or other paper filing system that works for you. There are also many paper books and binders which look lovely - but I’ll stick to reviewing the on-line tools for now.

You'll find my ultimate recommendation below the reviews. I don't want to sway your decision before you've read my assessments of each site.

A new month means a new blog post from SmartBride's Princess for a Day contest winner! Take it away Andrea…….

The focus for us in July is the guest list. As we get closer to the wedding (even though it's not until May), Adam and I have been thinking more and more about our guest list. Although our wedding is still a little too far away to be sending out save-the-dates or actual invitations, we definitely need to keep an eye on numbers.

For our May 19, 2012 wedding in London we'll be having somewhere around 140 people, mainly family and close friends. And while we're paying for most of it ourselves, both sets of parents are definitely helping us out so we've decided each side can invite a couple of their own friends.
