Possibly the most popular wedding DIY, creating your own centerpieces, can be a fun and satisfying experience. It’s also a great way to control an ever expanding budget as the price of centerpieces can quickly add up. They add the finishing touch to your space and create drama and interest in the place that your guests will be spending their evening.

Weddings are an incredible expense and there’s no shortage of ways to spend your money. Aside from the big ticket items like venues and dresses, brides don't always investigate the hidden costs behind some of the elements that make for a great wedding.

Often, wedding flowers are one of the last things that couples include in their budget. It's all too common for brides to pick a magic number instead of researching how many flowers they’ll get for this magic amount. The prices you see in your local flower shop have little to do with the final cost of wedding flowers (bouquets, arrangements etc.).

You've got the dress, you've booked the venue and you've rounded up all your bridesmaids. Its time for the flowers!
Although they’re a seemingly small element, it really is the finishing touch to your big day. You head down to your favourite flower shops and look at their current supply of fresh flowers, noting the blooms that appeal to you and those that are in your wedding colours, often taking photos (when permitted) or simply writing down names and prices.

When you learn what you'll be paying for your bouquet and other arrangements, things just don't seem to add up. You may ask yourself, “If the individual flower is $5 and I'm ordering 20 for the bouquet, why is the florist charging me $150?”

Centerpieces often take up a large part of the decor and floral budget for many brides. They’re the focal point of the room and provide interest for your guests for the majority of the wedding festivities.

That said, the cost of centerpieces can grow exponentially out of control. If you go over the top with your centerpieces, filling them full of expensive flowers, you can quickly blow your budget. Conversely, if you go with cheap looking centerpieces you may hear jeers from guests who’ll be able to guess how much you spent on decor.

Kim Kardashian and her celebrity wedding planner, Sharon Sacks, pulled together an elegant affair almost entirely decorated with black and white. From her bridesmaids and guests to the cake, ceremony and reception decor, there was a noticeable lack of colour.
Although they may seem simple, black and white themes are not as easy to pull off as one might think. Careful planning goes into achieving a delicate balance so neither black or white takes control. Subtle additions of colour can enhance, or totally derail your theme if you're not careful, so use them sparingly. Kim integrated pops of greenery on her reception tables and moody lighting later in the night for an extra pop.

Here are three tips to recreating Kim Kardashian's lavish black and white wedding without breaking the bank. Also read how to replicate Kim Kardashian's makeup and get Kim Kardashian's ceremony dress for less!
