Summer Wedding Trends
If you’re a bride on a budget (and who isn’t) you’ll love this year’s summer wedding trend: to make the weddings actually feel like summer!
This means bright pops of color, relaxed food, drinks, and décor.
Why is this so good for you? Because relaxed and summery is something you can achieve fairly inexpensively!
Here are some ideas:
One of the best ways to set a vibe for an event is to choose the appropriate music. For a summer themed wedding think Steel Drum Band, Reggae or Calypso music during the cocktail hour. More and more different types of bands are used to playing weddings these days, so don’t feel like you need to hire a separate band for the cocktail hour and the reception. Using one set of musicians will help save you money.
To get a festive, colorful feel for your wedding go with white linens and bring the color in with the food, drinks and even escort cards and table numbers. White linens are less expensive than colored ones. One colorful idea I love is to use soda bottles with gift tags hanging as the place cards. If you use colorful bottles of Jones’ soda and make your own labels, you can combine the escort card and wedding favor.
Requesting specific colors for your flowers can run up the florist’s bill. But, nothing says summer like watermelon. Ask your florist about the idea of using hollowed out watermelons as the base for your floral arrangement. Or consider using oranges, lemons and limes as your centerpieces. No flowers required and the fruit can be donated to a food pantry after the wedding.
Many blogs suggest a “signature cocktail” for your wedding, but they don’t always explain why this is a good idea. Having a signature cocktail lets you save money because you don’t need to have a full bar. Plus, summer drinks tend to have ice and fruit which cuts down on the amount of alcohol used, so a summer cocktail can be especially cost effective. They also tend to be brightly colored, adding to the colorful summer feel.
