Something Old For You and Your Bridesmaids
I was first introduced to Smitten Kitten at the One of a Kind Show last Christmas. You can't miss her booth, it's super cute! I, of course, had to purchase one of her Kanzashi brooches to brighten up my black winter coat. Her brooches are hand sewn from vintage scarves. She has a repertoire of her own scarves, but you can also bring your own scarf for a custom job.
As the weather turned colder we pulled all of our winter stuff out of storage, and I was excited to see my brooch again. It got me thinking - this would be perfect for "something old"!
The Kanzashi brooches come in three different sizes; small, large and double flower. They would be so cute as an accent to a wedding gown, or even for your bridesmaids dresses! You can generally squeeze several brooches out of one large scarf (if you want to be matchy matchy), and it's important to note that some patterns work better than others depending on the repeat of the graphics.
Smitten Kitten also makes clutches which would be a really funky way to accent your gown at the reception, or as Bridesmaid gifts.
If you're looking to save some money on Bridesmaid outfits, perhaps everyone could wear an black dress they already own. You could unify the look by adding a sash or belt pinned with a Kanzashi brooch.
Both my Grandma and my Husband's Grandma were unable to make it to our wedding ceremony. I wish I had thought of this idea sooner, as we could have brought a little piece of them into our attire for the day. I have since commissioned Smitten Kitten to create 8 small Kanzashi brooches from one of my Grandma's scarves to distribute among the women in our family. I can't wait to see them!
