Carly and Stephen's Austin Club Wedding

Carly and Stephen met as teenagers and were high school sweethearts. After some time apart in college, they reunited, and three years later, they tied the knot.

“I love my city, and I want to do my part to keep it beautiful,” said Carly. The couple tries to be green across all aspects of their lives, so their wedding day was no exception. They wanted to make it easy for their guests to be green and to show that it can be done, even for such a large event.

Real Green Wedding Tips

  1. Waste Not:

To avoid wasting paper on envelopes, Carly and Stephen used a double-sided postcard for their Save the Dates. Then, for more specific details, guests were directed to the couple's wedding website. The formal invitations were printed on recycled paper from a local paper vendor called Paper Planet.

  2. Let Them Eat Cake:

Blue Note Bakery, a business committed to using fresh local ingredients, made the elegant and delicious cake (pictured above).

To share a taste of their favorite local cuisine with their guests, Carly and Stephen provided their out-of-town friends and family with reusable goody bags full of salsa, chips, wine, and nuts all made by local Texas vendors.

  3. Green Gifts:

The bride began her green wedding with a green registry: she chose a local pottery and kitchenware boutique called Finch.

Finch sources its household products from local Austin artists, so every item the bride registered for helped the local economy. This also cut down on energy consumed and costs associated with shipping products over long distances.
