Wedding Invitation Tips & Trends
Laura from Laura K Design had the pleasure of designing the invitations for the Andrea, the winner of the Smartbride "princess for a day" contest last April.

She recently completed the invitations with Andrea and sat down with us to offer her thoughts on 2012 wedding invitation trends and some tips on how to work effectively with your invitation designer, especially if you’re not in the same city!
You and Andrea were never able to meet in person to design the invitations, how did you handle that?
Since we live in different cities and were unable to meet in person, we had to do everything through email. If you find yourself in a similar situation, here are my tips:
- Provide your designer with as much information as possible to give the designer a clear idea as to what you are looking for. Telling them about your venue, colour scheme, the style of the wedding and your personalities will help them point you in the right direction for the look of your invitations.
- Colour can be challenging when not meeting in person and most brides will want to ensure that the colour(s) they choose for their invitation match their overall them. To get around this, I had Andrea send me a paint swatch of the purple they wanted for me to colour match.
What are you seeing this year when it comes to wedding invitation trends?
I’m seeing that font based invitations are popular this year, as well as large, bold graphics. Purple is still a hot colour this year and so is Navy. Both colours look amazing when paired with another colour: for example purple and silver or navy and hot pink.
Andrea and her fiancé Adam will be sending them out to their guests as you read this! What do you think of the finished product?
