One of the hot trends in bridal for 2010 is the 50’s style dress that takes us back to the silver screen era of old Hollywood glamour and style. These dresses can be knee length with full skirts and often have the shoulders covered, either through a lace illusion top or cap sleeves. Some of the dresses being shown also have a belted waistline and others have hemlines that reach all the way to the floor. 50's Style Wedding Dress

If 50’s style is your thing, we’ve search through the dresses on SmartBride Boutique to come up with a 50’s look for your big day. Check it out below!

The Dress:
The Priscilla of Boston Vineyard “Drew” wedding dress is the perfect base for a 50’s/60’s inspired look. The dress falls just below the knees, has a perfect tulle hemline and a full skirt. This dress typically retails for about $2800, but is now available for $1500.

The Accessories:
On its own, the Vineyard Drew dress only accomplishes half of our 50’s/60’s style. Although the skirt is just about perfect, the top shows a bit too much skin compared to other styles of the era. To make it more authentic, we’d suggest adding a cute shrug to cover your shoulders. A quick search of Etsy shows two looks – one for ceremony and another for reception perhaps?
The Dotty Bridal Shrug ($65 USD) is made from the a dotted net fabric with a soft hand and slight stretch to hug your shoulders.

For the reception, you can add a bit more flare and choose this Basilica Bridal Bolero($72 USD).

The high ruffled collar creates a dramatic neckline, framing the face, before tapering softly below the bust line. Also, if you’re looking for that special something to tie your look to you maids, this comes in several different colours. Poised, polished and ready to party!

Couple either one (or both!) of these shoulder coverings with a birdcage blusher veil that just falls over one eye, like this one we also found on Etsy for $19.50 USD, and your look is complete!

To be more inspired and play 50’s & 60’s style dress up in real life, consider going to a swanky 1960s networking cocktail party – for woman only! They’ll be 1960’s party games, a chance to meet other “swell skirts” and 10% of ticket sales will be donated to Rethink Breast Cancer. We’ll be there and it would be fabulous to meet you!
