Wedding Advice: How can I personalize my wedding without it looking like everyone else's "personalized wedding"?
You are unique; just like everyone else. You want your wedding to wow your guests. Leave them with their jaws hanging open and desperately seeking how you did that, right? Every bride wants to be unique and special on her big day! So making your wedding personalized seems to be the obvious answer but is it really?
Bridal blogs, magazines, and websites all denote the advantageous nature to personalizing your wedding. Monograms, custom logos, special fonts, a colour theme, even a certain song. But, is this really "personalized"? Think about it. If I, Crystal Adair marry Stephen Benning, my monogram would be CAB (ha!). Now, if Charlotte Anderson marries Sam Brant her monogram would also be CAB. How "personalized" is it really? Any combination of names can make up the same monogram. So while it might be personalized to you, it's also personalized to Charlotte & Sam! Which doesn't make it all that personal anymore!
So what's the answer to this personalization debacle? Truly seek ideas and inspiration that set you apart from your contemporaries. If you both absolutely love a certain type of food, say Thai, then consider a wedding menu based on that love. If you travel, and your favourite location is Australia, why not consider using its ocean inspired backdrop and boho vibe for your theme? Inspiration comes in many forms but it’s what truly makes us who we are that will set your wedding apart.
Some ideas:
- Favors: divulge a secret family recipe for a favourite sweet
- Florals: pick unusual but much loved herbs, succulents, and florals
- Décor: consider your home design; what do you surround yourself with?
- Food: what food do you choose to celebrate with at home? Cater that!
- Attire: heirlooms either worn or added to design
