Friday Fitness: Three Mistakes That Can Sabotage Your Fitness Efforts

Hey Blushing Brides!

I often hear about the common mistakes people make when they act on weight-loss myth's that they believe will aid them in reaching their fitness goals. Frequently, these myths are doing more harm than good, so keep reading to find out about three fitness myths busted!

Fitness Myths Busted

Mistake #1: "But it says low fat!"

Ladies, that's just clever marketing. Many of today's 'low fat' products are still high (if not higher) in sugar to make them taste good. You may think you're cutting fat out of your diet, when in fact you may be consuming more simple sugars and overly processed, refined carbs.

Mistake #2: "I'm going to work out every day until I reach my goal weight."

When you over-stimulate or provide too much of a challenge to the body without allowing it to recover, you can have negative results. The changes you're making to your body essentially happen while you sleep. This is the time period when your body repairs the muscle groups that are being trained; they become stronger and adapt to handle the demand you're placing on them. In severe cases of overtraining, you can see progress not only stop, but actually decline!

Mistake #3: "It's 6 p.m. and all I ate today was a shake at breakfast, I must be loosing weight!"

When you go long periods of time between meals your body perceives that you are suddenly experiencing a time of famine and its natural reaction is to do everything possible to survive it. Since your body doesn't know when it may receive its next meal, it starts to slow down its metabolism and the energy it burns. Since it’s taking in less energy, it wants to burn less energy and does whatever it can to store and retain body fat.

Get into the habit of eating six smaller meals and snacks every 3 – 3 ½ hours to provide your body with a regular supply of fuel. This will significantly increase your metabolism, helping you to burn fat throughout the day.

Happy Training!
