Finding Your Perfect Eco-Friendly Venue
So now that you've set a date for your big day, the next big hurdle is to find a venue that satisfies your tastes, vision and needs! If your tastes include finding an eco-friendly venue, we would like to provide you with some general questions to ask yourself and the venue so that you choose wisely! Here is a laundry list of things to consider:

General Questions:
- Are you looking for a venue that encompasses as many green initiatives as possible?
- Where do you want your wedding to be held? Indoors? Outdoors?
- Where in the city do you want the ceremony to take place?
- Will your guests have to travel far to reach the venue?
- Is it possible to have the wedding ceremony and the reception at one location?
- What is your maximum venue budget?
Questions for the Venue:
The Company:
- What is the company’s Green Policy?
- How important is being a Green venue to them?
- If the venue is not fully certified green, what steps have they taken (or are they taking) to become green?
The Building:
- Where is their electricity sourced from?
- Do they use energy efficient light bulbs?
- Do they use energy efficient toilets?
- What energy reduction steps have they taken?
The Catering:
- Where is the food sourced from? Local farmers?
- Do they provide meals cooked with organic ingredients?
- Do they provide a vast vegetarian/vegan menu?
- What happens with the food if there are leftovers? Do they donate it to an agency? Do they allow you to take the food with you?

The Decor:
- Where are the table linens sourced from?
- Are the table linens cleaned using eco-friendly products?
- If they have preferred vendors, how eco-friendly are they?
Once you have chosen the venue you should do the following (to avoid unwanted stress as your big days approaches):
- Ask if there will be any major renovations or reconstructions prior to your wedding day. You don't want to have your vision of an outdoor patio wedding be crushed by bulldozers and construction!
- Do a complete site inspection; take note of any small damages and take photos. You don’t want to be charged for pre-existing damages.
SAVE MONEY TIP:
If your venue has preferred vendors it is best to use them. Not only do they have experience working at the venue, but using an outside vendor might add an additional cost.

Until next time, happy planning
