Bride-To-Be: Fun and Games and a Trip to Jamaica?
This past weekend my fiancé and I had our Buck and Doe and it was an incredible success!

Our Buck and Doe Timeline. It Wasn't Always Fun and Games:
- Friday: We spent the evening before our party making signs and jell-o shooters. I stayed up until 2:30 a.m. to get everything done on time. It was hectic!
- Saturday: In the morning we brought the alcohol to the hall. We returned at 5 p.m. to set up. Thanks to our amazing wedding party set up went smoothly, but it still took 3 hours to get everything in order. Before we knew it the clock struck 8:00 p.m. and our guests were beginning to arrive.
The Fun and Games!
- The Crown & Anchor Wheel: We rented this game for $20 (at the last minute) and guests were lined up to play all night! We brought in between $300 and $500 from this game alone.
- The Jail: This game cost $30, but guests gladly paid $2 to throw someone in. Once there, the jailed guest couldn’t drink or use the washroom until someone either bailed them out for $2 or they purchased a drink for $4. The jail was extremely popular the entire night, not surprisingly. Also, it was fun for everyone because the DJ was constantly announcing the names of guests who were thrown in jail.
- The Joker Game: Guests bought 1 card for $3 or 2 cards for $5. The cards were face down on Bristol board and guests wrote their name on a card. The player who had written their name on the joker card, won a prize. The prize was worth over $300 and had been donated to us. Guests enjoyed this game and we made a lot of money on it.
- The Raffle: Almost all of our guests bought raffle tickets. We had plenty of prizes donated, so this game was very inexpensive to run.
- The Cooler Draw: We had a draw for a cooler full of alcohol. Each member of the wedding party purchased a bottle of alcohol and my parents donated the cooler. We sold the draw tickets for $5 each or 3 for $10. We sold lots of tickets!
We chose games that our guests enjoyed and we were lucky to have most things donated. The DJ also played a huge part overall in the success of the night. He did an amazing job of promoting the games for us and every time he made an announcement reminding people about a game, I watched guests head straight to that game. Thanks to him and help from our amazing friends and family, our Buck and Doe was an incredible success. Best of all, this night of fun and games has enabled us to look into booking our dream honeymoon to Jamaica!
*SmartBride Tip*: While you might be tempted to have a friend DJ your party for free, we highly recommend that you hire a professional. DJ’s can have a significant impact on the amount of money you bring in because they can promote your games and pump guests up so the night is exciting for everyone. Having a great DJ also allows the bride and groom some time to mingle with friends and family.

About our Guest Blogger: Alicia Mason
On December 23, 2008 I got engaged to my best friend and soul mate. We set the date for September 25, 2010 and for the past year I have been sleeping and breathing everything wedding including; the venue, food, flowers, decorator, invitations, and finding the perfect dress…all on a budget!
While I didn't go crazy meeting with 10 florists and 10 decorators, I put a lot of thought into each decision and was able to find great deals along the way. I am thrilled that the SmartBride Boutique ladies have asked me to be a guest blogger in order to give you details about my wedding planning. While the planning isn't easy, it is exciting and I hope as you plan your wedding, you'll find my experiences helpful.
