Bride-To-Be: Choosing Your Wedding Invitations
Happy Valentine’s Day!
I can't believe it's already February 2012 – and Valentine’s Day no less! Our wedding is just over three months away at this point... it's creeping up faster than I could have imagined (even though everyone said it would!) and there's still so much to do! And one big one... getting the word out to our friends and families.

The Invitations!
Luckily, the Princess for a Day contest is making things a little easier for us! Over the past month or so, Adam and I have been working with Laura at Laura K Design to create our perfect invitations.
When we first got engaged and started thinking about wedding details, the invitations didn't really strike me as something that was all that important. I thought it was just a little thing... and we actually bought really really cheap DIY invitations that didn't match anything we were planning to do for the wedding.
But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that invitations are the very first impression your guests will have about your big day. That doesn't mean they need to be ridiculously expensive or over-the-top, but they should match the feel you want for your wedding.

On that note, Adam and I are planning a pretty traditional wedding, so we knew we wanted invites to match. We had a bit of a discussion before we started working with Laura, mainly about the feel, colours, and wording. We definitely wanted the dark purple and light yellow to match our wedding colours, but neither of us are overly creative so we couldn't really visualize exactly what we wanted them to look like.
That's where Laura came in – we told her the colours, and that we wanted traditional, but something kind of fun at the same time... and she went to work! She made four different styles for us to choose from.
Adam and I both think they turned out great! Although I haven't included the style we picked, so we can save a little surprise for when our guests receive them in the mail!

Based on my experience creating our wedding invitations, here are a few tips for having your perfect invitations designed!
Tips to Working with a Designer
- Come with Some Ideas: Have at least a bit of an idea of what you'd like them to look like. Like I said, we didn't know exactly what we wanted, but we had a few “must-haves” for them to include
- Insert Your Personality: Make sure they're a reflection of you and your vision of your wedding day, so your wedding can have a cohesive and personal feel from beginning to end.
- Don't be afraid to ask for what you want: We ended up making Laura change things on our invitations a few times before they were perfect, because in the end you need what works for you (Thanks again, Laura!!!)
Happy planning!
Andrea
