So it is officially the summer of weddings and as much as you love shopping the thought of buying three dresses for three separate weddings is overwhelming. Well, there is good news, if you shop smart you don’t have to. Follow these five steps to help translate your dress to any occasion.

  1. Choose a neutral colour. A bright red dress will be remembered but a camel or navy dress will allow you to transform the dress with countless accessories. Just stay away from white or ivory unless you want to start a fight at the wedding.

  2. Buy a classic fit. To minimize wider hips, stick with an a-line. Alternatively, to accentuate hips try a pencil skirt. Wrap dresses were god’s gift (or at least Diane Von Furstenberg’s) to women. They are incredibly flattering, as they create the illusion of an hourglass figure.

  3. Always have a comfortable pair of nude pumps available. They go with everything and help to visually elongate your legs.

  4. Stock up on accessories;
    a) Necklaces: try a statement necklace to draw attention away from the dress
    b) Scarves: Long or short, skinny or wide, there are a million different ways to wear a scarf. Vintage stores often have huge selections At amazing prices.
    c) Brooches: Head to your local craft or fabric store to pick up a fabric flower or try a one of a kind find off of Etsy.com
    d) Belts: An outfit isn’t an outfit without a belt. Just make sure it is accentuating the smallest part of your waist.
    e) Hats: Take a page out of our UK sisters. Just be ready to be the center of attention. There is nothing classier than a woman in a hat

  5. Invest in the basics and skimp on the superfluous accessories. There is a reason why the world has H & M and Aldo. Search the magazines for styles that you like then head to the mall to find inexpensive imitations.
